Event series on (de-)democratisation
The current political situation highlights the urgent need to address the challenges facing our democracy. With the ‘Let’s talk democracy!’ series of events in the winter semester 2026/27 and the summer semester 2027, we would like to invite you to a diverse programme that views democracy as an inclusive process and places marginalised perspectives at the centre.
Talking about democracy
Democracy means that all people can participate in political decision-making on an equal footing and that their rights are protected. It is not a given, but rather an ongoing process that must be actively shaped. However, structural inequalities, discrimination, and a lack of opportunities for participation repeatedly threaten this ideal. Especially in times when democratic institutions and minority rights come under pressure, the equal inclusion of all people—particularly marginalized groups such as women, people of color, LGBTQIA* individuals, people with immigrant backgrounds, or people with disabilities—becomes a central task in order to live up to the ideals of inclusion and justice.
The “Let’s talk democracy” event series aims to address these challenges by presenting different formats – such as readings, lunch talks and lectures – at the university during the 2026/27 winter semester and the 2027 summer semester. The aim is to create a space for exchange, reflection and inspiration for action, because democracy thrives on participation, critical thinking and collective shaping.
The series is aimed at all members of the university who wish to champion a vibrant, just and participatory democracy.

Readings
15.12.2026 - Bitch Hunt
6 p.m., location to be announced
Veronika Kracher
In 'Bitch Hunt', Veronika Kracher analyses the mechanisms of digital misogyny and highlights the role that anti-feminist campaigns play in the right-wing culture war. Using smear campaigns – such as those against the actress Amber Heard – as examples, she illustrates how structural humiliation and the right-wing culture war are intertwined. Ultimately, these dynamics do not only affect those directly involved; they also have an impact on public discourse and, consequently, on our democracy. On 15 December 2026 at 6 pm, Veronika Kracher will present this analysis at the University of Bonn, and we look forward to an insightful lecture and a lively discussion.
14.01.2027 - Postpartriarchal Chaos
6 p.m., location to be announced
Antje Schrupp
In 'Post-Patriarchal Chaos and How We Can Save Freedom Through Feminism', Antje Schrupp argues that, whilst the era of patriarchy is over, current social and political developments must be understood as post-patriarchal chaos. She combines theoretical reflections from gender studies with a critical assessment of the present day and shows how feminism can be reimagined today – both its achievements and its challenges.
