Day 1
At the start of the event, two presentations and a panel discussion on 'Families (of Choice)' addressed family models beyond heteronormativity and discrimination against trans* people in the parental home. A subsequent reading with Dr. Sarah Czerney and Dr. Lena Eckert on ‘Parents in Academia: Achieving Greater Balance’ provided valuable insight into the structural disadvantages that mothers* in particular continue to face at universities.
Day 2
On the second day, the ideas raised in the reading were taken up in a workshop on the same topic. Here, participants were able to reflect on structural conditions for people with children (or who wish to have children) in academia and exchange ideas on improvements in work-life balance. In the afternoon, a World Café with more than 40 university members provided an opportunity to discuss the five different thematic priorities of the diversity strategy.
The Diversity Days concluded with a social networking event with stakeholders from the field of equal opportunity and diversity at the University of Bonn.
